just purchased "LOUD ENGINE KNOCK"

I have a 2008 6.4L with 180k. Previous government vehicle. There is an extremely loud engine Knock (more of a pop) when its running. The vehicle seems to respond just fine and I dove it about 200 yards and the throttle response seemed fine also. The Popping sound increased with engine speed, and when I took off the airbox lid the noise was significantly louder. Noise also seemed like it was coming from the passenger side of the engine bay. Not sure what to do or what it could be? Thanks

Im taking a wild guess, check the turbo for shaft play... Since you said it by the passanger side, and it got louder when you took the air intake off... Just a guess!

I would also guess a broken rocker arm. Especially since you hear it thru the intake.

I'd guess broken exhaust rocker arm or leaking intake valve. Probably rocker arm.

+1 on the Rocker Arm. I'm even going to go out on a limb and bet that it's #8 exhaust. LOL

Mine did it too.
