I have an 08 F250 with the 6.4 engine. When I try to start the truck, I can hear what I think is the starter motor turning but the engine does not turn over. My scanner revealed no DTC codes. The dashboard computer states to check the starting system. Both batteries are reading over 12 volts (12.4 & 12.3). This is the first time it has ever not started up almost immediately after turning the key. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The batteries should be on up around 13.5-14 volts. Last year when my truck startet showing check charging system i had a bad battery although my truck would still crank. But those volts should be higher. Just my experience, hope you get it going.

I always thought 12 volts were sufficient. Thanks for telling me. I have been trying to think through this. I am wondering if I have a faulty solenoid or if the shaft coming out of the starter may have failed. I'm at work so I can't run out and look right now. Anybody have any experience with these parts failing?

Found the problem. The starter motor spins, but the shaft that engages the engine does not spin. Thanks for all the help.
