Oil analysis shows major issues

Changed the oil in my truck a couple of weeks ago, 1/2" over full on the dip stick before we drained the old oil. Sent an oil sample to Empire Fluids Lab in Phoenix. The analysis was so bad they called with the results instead of mailing it. 3% fuel dilution, 132 parts of iron and 70 parts of aluminum, soot was extremely high and the oil viscosity test showed 8.8 (15W40).

Ford engineering now tells us that this is normal! They said to expect 1 quart of diesel in the oil every 3,000 miles! With the suggested normal oil change intervals at 10,000 miles; that would put almost 1 gallon of diesel in the oil. No wonder that my mpg's are so bad.

Our company owns a fleet of Kenworths and over 30 pieces of diesel powered heavy machinery, with an analysis like we got on this motor, we would have the machine in the shop with the heads and oil pan off.

I would not panic on the first change.
Has the company you work for have had the same results for the first oil change on other trucks ? Does KW run in before delivery ?
I have built several motors for drag racing cars. The assembly area is clean as can be. If ran in on the dino, 2 very easy run ups to ½ - 2/3 RPM range with same on the load and throttle opening, then the oil and filter are change. If ran down the track same “brake” in and oil – filter change.
I know the first new Ford pickup I drove it home and changed the oil and filter, motor was still was strong and passing smog testing at over 300,000 miles.
I was going to do the same with my new 07PSD but seeing the cost of 15 quarts and the filter elected to drive a short time. After about 1,900 miles did the service and found to my surprise a factory installed magnetic drain plug, not to my surprise it has some fuss (small metal filings) not a big deal, it’s the high spots and rings wearing in.
Now when I change it this the (4th) will pull a sample on the 3rd oil in the motor even that, the rings are still seating in with only 7,500 miles on the motor, so I understand about diesels.
Thanks for the info on where to get a oil analysis done in the Phoenix area, was about to look into where.

Thanks, but the mail thing and Empire has the shop just a hop, skip and a jump from Tempe in Mesa. This will be a personal first time after over 37 years of runing a truck to do so.

The truck had 7500 miles on the odo and this was our first oil change. It was in for a crank seal at 2500 miles, Ford changed it then. As far as we know, the oil is Motorcraft, either from the factory or the dealer.

The Navistar rep at Sanderson Ford (largest truck dealer in Phx) said that he would recommend changing the oil at 3000 and never more with the fuel washing issue. He also said that Ford/Navistar would not authorize a warranty claim from an oil analysis.

We retested after 800 miles at the lab's request. 27 parts iron & 26 parts aluminum and no fuel. Lab states that normal aluminum at 5000 miles should be around 3 to 4 parts. They are still very concerned and want a recheck in 2500 more miles.

They don't understand "break in" period i'm thinkin... just a bunch of chemist.
I think the metals are from break in, the fuel i can't explain though. Drive it like you stole it and check the oil again @ 40k miles when its good and broke it.
