Metal piece in oil pan

We changed the oil and found some metal shavings on the magnetic drain plug. The piece in this picture was also in there. Needless to say, the truck is pared or the time being. Anybody have any thoughts on what it could be from?

Interesting. Were there a lot of metal shavings? What about engine noise?

Usually it starts misfiring long before someone complains about the noise. There will be increased valvetrain noise but customers usually don't notice that because it happens over time
