Heat off and on pls help!

Ok so I've been hunting around and I can find quite the answer for my problem.

I recently bought a 2008 6.4 ccsb f350 with 60000 miles. I put an intake, exhaust and H&S mini maxx on it. Truck runs great and I'm really happy with it, but when I'm on the highway I get Luke warm air out of the defrost on the windshield, unless I turn on the little internal cab air recirculating button then it's hot. If I point it at the floor or face its usually pretty warm but pointed at the window and feet as soon as that air recirc is off it looses that heat. Now it's really cold here (-25 C today) so I put a big piece of card board between the radiator and the rest of the exchangers in front and it did help keep my coolant temp higher (180-200F instead of 160-180F) but I still get this random cold. I haven't lost any coolant in the last 4 weeks I've had the truck and haven't noticed anything out of the ordinary... What in the world is the fix???

Just to add, I'm now getting some grey/black smoke if I give the truck some pedal while moving slowly... I've never really seen it smoke before kinda nervous. I've been searching for two days now and haven't found any answers.... Still not loosing any coolant an still randomly blowing cold air unless I turn on be recirc button.
