Oil cooler or head gasket failure?
Somebody please tell me what I have going on .
Was checking out truck yesterday and pulled the dipstick only to see grayish milky sludge looking stuff on it in places , and no oil showing on it. I of course expected the worst . Pulled my oil filter cap only to find perfect black oil . Pulled the drain plug and drained out about 3.5 gallons of oil with no sign of milky oil or water . Went ahead and did oil change and left alone thinking maybe since the truck sits more than its driven , and I am I a humid area , I was just over thinking it. Today I needed to use my trailer to pick up some stuff , so I head out . About 20 miles from home I'm watching g my fuel mileage go up on the dash ( I unhooked my battery's yesterday also) and all of a sudden I look down and my temp gauge is about 3/4 to 7/8 . I instantly pull over and all of a sudden it starts steaming . I open the hood and it has blown a hose off the coolant degas bottle and is dumping the gray sludge out of it like crazy. I mean the engine is covered in it . I tow the truck home and am sick to my stomach. Engine was just replaced . Due to the last motor being bad from diluting of oil from regen. This motor supposedly had 20 k on it . It is dpf deleted and egr deleted /blocked off . Running spartan tunes , set on 300 I think . Has only been running and tuned for about 1200 miles . No check engine lights whatsoever ? Is this just bad/faulty oil cooler ? Or possibly head gasket too ? I noticed a few weeks ago just a small bit of white smoke on a couple redlight digs . Someone please help ! Cliffs : truck is tuned and has been for 1200 miles or less , motor has 20 k on it , EGRs deleted and blocked off. Started to overheat and is puking a but load of oil out of coolant reservoir . |

I sure hope so .
I am stuck now with the decision to either take my time go all thee way and do gaskets/studs wether they need it or not . |

It sounds like an oil cooler to me also. It sounds like oil was getting into the coolant system.

Just to throw this out there, this is what happened when my oil cooler failed. Head gaskets are perfectly fine;

Yea, its been a year of learning for sure. Bought the truck in March with 57,187 miles on it and just turned the first 100,000 (157,187). Two broken EGR Coolers, One broken Oil Cooler before I got wise to the EGR Delete. Happy truck now. Yes, that was ugly.

The white smoke would be indicative of head gaskets, but probably wouldn't be able to push that much oil into the coolant. When my oil cooler went, I was left with about a gallon of oil in the crankcase.

Does it smoke at all on a cold start? (White smoke) I live in Florida and its humid here also. If you see a light haze like seeing your breath when it's cold out then it's no big deal but if you see it clearly and it's kinda foggy that's a sign of your head needing to be replaced soon

Definitely sounds indicative of a ruptured oil cooler. Take a lot of pics of it if you could to show what it is your dealing with please.
