coolant useage??

Ford already replaced my radiator years ago.
Still using coolant: gallon every 500 miles.
Forum member suggested: cavitation at front of water pump. Ford denied any knowledge.
Dealer installed $288 upper radiator hose with 2 "0" rings without prior author. and claimed it solved the problem after pressure test. NOT true
Ford suggested I not use the CAT coolant cuz I still have some warranty left.
What should I suggest to them tuesday morning.
We leave for 3K miles to pick up new toyhauler this coming Friday. THX.

check for leaks around the radiator tank ends and also also all the hoses. check your degas also to see if it puking. another point of leak are the egr coolers.

take it to another dealer. losing a gallon of coolant every 500 miles is a lot. if its cavitating and going into the engine it could get hydrolocked and you dont want that on a trip towing a trailer. id postpone the pickup until i got the issue resolved. if you want first hand look change your oil. if that much is going in then it should be apparent in the oil drained. if not have the dealer do it so they can see it.

using cat is up to you. warranty vs better coolant but changing coolant wont solve your issue right now.

Surely when Ford pressure-tested it before replacing the radiator hose AND re pressure-testing after the install, they would have found another possible leak,,...but what do I know. Another gentleman suggested the 3/8 hose from stainless steel tube near top of engine down to, probably the EGR, has been known to leak. Thx. Should go out and look to see any obvious leaks NOW. Just had heart surgery, so wife says NO!!! Damn good wifes, anyway))))

if there arent any leaks then its probably cavitation. if your dealer played dumb on a well known issue then youre probably better off finding another competent ford truck service center.

if the dealers charged me 250+ dollars to change out the upper radiator hose i wpuldve been pissed. they go around 80 bucks and installed in 30 minutes. maybe they took that liberty since they were already working on your truck and wouldve charged you a diagnosis fee.

anyways in your condition the last thing you need is a broken down truck in the middle of nowhere. id call around the other dealerships and get a feel for their level
of service.

The problem with Ford replacing the radiator is that they put another one in it just like the first one. My guess (if it's not the radiator) would be EGR Cooler leaking. You definitely need to figure things out before you start traveling long diistance to tow heavy trailers. If you have water in the oil, youmight have blown head gasket.
