Throwing a P0404 code and wont regen. drove the truck 1600 miles

Guys,

like the title says im having an issue with my new 08 cc king ranch 6.4 diesel. i purchased the truck and everything was working fine untill i was about 300 miles from the house and the check engine light came on. i got it checked today and its showing the following code number P0404 which is P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Control Circuit Range/Performance.

what could i do or where do i start? i already unplugged the egr and replugged in and restarted the truck but still nothing. the truck is running like a dog due to this as well.

any imput would be great. thanks

truck has 71k miles and wondering if i can try and clean the egr? i check all the connections and everything looks fine. seeing what else i need to do before i need to bring to the shop?

71k miles....you needa look at replacing the egr valve...they get bad from 60 to 100k depending on how much you idle. you will not have good luck taking it off and cleaning it, as the housing always becomes stuck and you will break it getting it off, around 800 bucks for the work at the dealership unless you still have warranty, if you have to pay for it yourself i recommend getting a tuner and egr delete about the same price. I would also throw on a cat back dpf delete too, as youll have problems out of that soon too. also doing the deletes and having a tuner will get you better fuel mileage. i used to get around 18 to 18.5 in my 08 f350 4x4 now with the xrt pro tuner and mbrp deletes i get 21.5 on the interstate cruisin at 75. Btw the dpf and egr both should have factory warranty to 100k miles, a dealership i took mine to at 80k told me my warranty was out, i looked on the ford website and read the warranty and it is covered to 100k....dont let them lie to you.

thank you. yes i took it to the dealership and it was covered under warranty. they wanted to charge 765.00 for egr and installations. then they looked it up.
