Engine knocking
I have what sounds like a rod knocking at certain rpm ranges but the truck runs fine. I was told that this is a "normal noise" from the 6.4's up in mileage. Being mechanically inclined, this is not what I expected to hear from a dealer . I have 123K on the truck which is no miles for a diesel but this is my 3rd 6.4 and I am still amazed at the issues these engines have. Anyone else experience this? Can we just go back to the 7.3 Ford????

What RPM range exactly are you hearing it? Any particular throttle position?

sknotts,
I have about the same mileage on my fleet S450 work truck. Its made the same annoying noises since it was new. ECM seems to harass injector timing to no end, based on throttle position/torque needed. Plus, when in DPF mode it clacks like he!! half the time. I just live with it--hopefully only living with it until November. |

Mine does the same thing at 63k, my uncle bought it new and owned it before me and i drove it to haul cattle and its done it since new also.
I liked the reliability of the 7.3 as much as anybody but if your concerned about knocking noises from a 6.4 then you would be sick to your stomach from some of the noises those early powerstrokes made.. |
