New guy here with problems

Hello all,

Just purchased my first diesel. It's a 2008 F250 FX4 with 140K. Love the truck, but it is giving me nothing but problems. Started out with Transmission shift solenoid E. had the computer reflashed and hasn't thrown that code since. Next, i started seeing steam coming from under the hood. All temps are normal. Pop the hood to find steam billowing out from behind the engine, near the firewall. I see liquid being misted onto the turbo pipe and evaporating, causing the steam. The source is a metal line and fitting on top of the passenger's side valve cover. What is that? If it's a fuel line, perhaps that would explain why my truck won't accelarate over 50mph. You can push the pedal to the floor and it won't go anywhere in a hurry. Also, the boost gauge fluctuates rapidly. Any suggestions? I really want to love this truck. But it's giving me plenty of reasons not to.
