2008 6.4 "TRIPLE PLAY" knock, smoke, boost
Hi all - Sorry this is long - but wanted to give all the info I could up front. Looking for input from others who may have experienced what I did tonight. Truck details - I bought it new so no surprises by what a previous owner could have done. I have the S&B cold air, MBRP filter back 5" exhaust and the Edge w/attitude tuner installed - truck has just under 58k - DPF regen kicked in on the way to a job - completed regen - as always - I get the P2002 (particulate below blah blah) trip to job was about 40 miles of freeway @ 75mph. Tuck totally cooled down - 4 hr job & I'ts not real warm in Minnesota this time of the year - so now the fun stuff, I am less than 4 miles from home, truck is totally warmed, all is good - then out of the blue I got a knock that sounded like a big block gas motor was launching a rod through the block - I let off the gas....the stepped on it again (no load/trailer) If you were behind me, you would have thought you were at the dragstrip behind a top fuel funny car doing a burnout! then loss of power, NO boost from turbo. I pulled over, quick ran codes, and shut it down - Got the P2002, and one about fuel rail pressure too low. It's about 1:00 in the morning - real dark so I couldn't tell the color of the smoke, but it was so thick, i couldn't see the streetlights/stop light or commercial building signs less than a 1/4 mile away. I found NO fuel leak, NO oil leak, NO antifreeze leak. BUT I did find my exhaust "dripping" with liquid...took a white paper towel and wiped inside the exhaust lots of light green FUEL. Restarted truck - NO CODES!! - shut it back off walked around looking for anything else - crawled up into the engine compartment with my Ryobi 18volt spot light looking for anything wet - nothing - decided to have girlfriend bring my F150 down and tow it home - when she arrived said the heck with it, I'll try to drive it - let it break Ford can fix the issue - no issue @ 1500rpm - above that I would start getting the knock again, so I took it easy until I was a block from my driveway - turned the Edge to stock - then floored it - real loud knock again, and heavy smoke, and NO boost - @ 3500rpm digital gauge read 4lbs!! - Oil is NOT overfull - Antifreeze is low - truck is parked!
My son is a Ford Tech(14yrs)- and the dealer knows what mods I have, already had the motor pulled, or should I say the body removed to fix that. Have had the EGR redone, the computer flashes (tech's all know to pull my Edge) I did purchase the extended 200k warranty - but this is still under the 100k - So if you have any idea's please let me know
