you nailed it. sounds the engine ingested a bunch of coolant bent a rod. I've seen them kick out the wrist pin into the wall too. you'll feel it when you're trying to spin it by hand to get the convertor nuts out.
Unfortunately I've seen this a few times and I've never seen one come out of a coolant hydrolock without serious damage. The only thing you can do is pull the glow plugs out and see how freely the engine spins.
