'08 Powerchoke back in the shop

8 days in the shop since April and counting. . . the diesel coolant radiator is leaking and will be replaced as soon as the dealer can get one.

The diesel radiator (small radiator on the far right facing the engine) had made a mess on my shop floor after running a couple of errands on Friday. Drove over to the dealership and guess what? It was wet, but would not leak for the service writer. He went and fetched the two Powerchoke mechanics for them to have a look and it still wouldn't leak. Started it up and let it run for over 5 minutes (my mpg on the computer went from 8.6 to 8.2) - it still wouldn't leak. They agreed that the mess was coming from this small radiator and the service writer went back inside to order one. One of the mechanics shut the hood and it started running a stream on the ground. It was confusing because it was antifreeze that was leaking, not diesel; the diesel cooling is actually a closed system with coolant running through the radiator going through a heat exchanger to cool the fuel. They hope to have the radiator some time next week.

Should have kept my 2000.

Picked up the truck yesterday, the warranty ticket said they had to pull the front bumper for the repair (which doesn't make any sense to me) anyway, thought I should take a look before I left the dealership. To my horror, the air-to-air cooler was extremely damaged! I immediately went and fetched the service advisor to show him, he immediately apologized and said he would order a replacement.

Today, the service manager tells me that I have to bring the truck back in so he can look at it to see "if and/or what" they are going to do about it.

I am on the phone with the Ford "Customer Relationship" representative right now (I'm on hold).

Jim Babbitt Ford in Flagstaff, Arizona. STAY CLEAR.

The Ford rep says that there is nothing he can do until I take it back in and let them look at it. They really know how to win friends and influence people. NOT!

UPDATE:

The Ford rep called the dealership, and the Service Manager just came by to look at the damage. He said that he will order the replacement, should have it next week. "Sorry for the hassle" which they caused. We'll see how this goes.

Funny how he wasn't available when I asked.

Bad thing here in Arizona . . . the Lemon Law only applies to vehicles that are privately owned, not owned by a business as is this truck. Found out the hard way with my 1999 Powerstroke that Ford eventually replaced (in the shop for over 100 days in the first 14 months we owned it).

the lemon law was the first thing i thought of bcuz i work with someone who had an 04 F350 with the 6.0 in it. had so many problems, he got his $$ back per the California lemon law. hates Ford now, ended up buying an 04 Dodge with a Cummins.

CA's lemon law is STRICT though - much easier for a consumer to get a buyback in CA than most other states...

just as Marc... he can tell you all about it since he is a tech in CA -- even think there is a thread around here about CA's lemon law.. or maybe it was on the Wolfe Radio show...

anyway - Sorry to hear about all the troubles man - that has to make it hard to get any work done! Maybe you can switch dealers once they replace the messed up parts?
