i think i overfilled my oil??
ok, so i changed my oil for the first time (since ive owned it) on my 08 6.4 about 2 months ago, 2500 miles ago. when i changed the oil, i poured it in, and let it wait a couple minutes and then checked the oil, got the level perfect then. I decided last night to check the level just to see how it was, and it is about 2 inches higher than it should be on the dipstick!! it is kinda dark but doesnt seem to have anything in it (coolant, fuel, etc). is it possible that i just overfilled the oil because i checked it too quickly after i poured the oil in? i watched the DVD that came with the truck last night and it says to wait 20 min after driving before checking the oil so that it all drains to the crankcase. (it had been sitting for over 24 hours when i check it yesterday). i hope thats the only problem, but i hope that didnt cause any other problem too... any advice here???

Do you still have your dpf? Fuel dilution during regen is very common.

How much oil did you put in?

Did you put more than 15 qts in? I normally add the 15 qts, crank the truck then turn off and check the level its with in range every time. The only time ive seen the oil level high was from the oil being diluted with diesel from regen. But since youve deleted your dpf im not sure. And pretty much all diesel oil is dark once its been ran. If youre sure its high drain some out to get it back to the correct level then keep an eye on your dipstick over the next few weeks.

Personally, I check all my vehicles cold. Then you can't mis-interpret a reading. Just drain a little out if its over full
