Unhappy Head gasket, Egr or what

Hey guys,
I've been trolling the site for years. I've always had real good luck with fords and never needed to post...just enjoy reading. Three months ago i got a 2008 f-350 srw.

For the past week I've had hard starts. Then his weekend I was pulling a 15k lb gooseneck and got about 400 yds onto the road and the motor started whitesmokin and knockin real bad. Shut it down and called a tow. The truck will idle...but blows white smoke and given a little fuel starts to knock.

please advise and thanks in advance

Ok more information...
no oil in the water or water in the oil.
starts and at idle it sounds fine but blowing lots of water vapor.
Should I get the egr delete?
Install and hope for the best?
Is there a way to test the egr before assuming its the problem?
also anyway to test the cooler.

could it be water in the intercooler? It sounds like it could be an egr problem but i am not sure how you would check for that. Is your coolant lever low?

yes coolant very low...all gone actually.
I had to put more water in and run it to check for oil in the water. She white smokes badly at idle and a whole lot at right off idle. I don't dare give more than 1/10" throttle. I ordered sinster delete...hopefully this fixes the problem. I don't think it will... but a $3000 repair on a truck I just bought for $25k is a very disappointing purchase.

i think a cracked egr cooler might be your problem and i think the egr delete will fix it. I hope thats all it is. Let us know if it solves your problem.
