I mainly hear it during idle, I don't hear it too much when picking up speed but I think that's in part to the exhaust noise. When I hit 50+ MPH I can't hear anything but engine and exhaust noise. It kind of reminds me of a noise I used to hear with my 6.0, it reminds me of a what a diesel engine should sound like . I drove it 100 miles today and no power or other issues. I'll keep my fingers crossed & keep driving it and see what happens. I might try what some members are doing. Drain about 1 quart of oil and fill the oil to the midpoint mark on the dipstick. One member said he did this and the noise went away. I've also read a few members have gotten engines replaced for this noise and the noise comes back in the new engines. So at this point I'm going to go with this noise might be normal.

All I can say about this is that it is not affecting the performance of my truck because I just smoked a Dodge Hemi today! One thing I did notice when I reved my engine is @ about 1k RPM I get a rattle noise coming from the engine. Not too load but you can hear it. I'll be adding some fuel additive today w/my fill up and will be draining out 1 quart of oil and adding 1/2 quart back in & see what happens. I'll post if anything changed.

I have had this EXACT issue since my first oil change. I changed the original oil at 2000 miles. The truck now has 3700 miles and the pecking sound from the bottom of the engine comes and goes. I have taken it to the dealer and was told that they adjusted the transmission filter bracket because it was tapping against the transmission. Sounds like I may be taking it back in soon. Obviously the noise had nothing to do with a trans filter bracket.
