EGR Sensor A circuit high 6.4 ~ Limp Mode?
truck is a 08 with 96k miles,
yesterday when I was returning home, the check engine light came on and the power became sluggish, it drove smooth but took a while to get up to speed. today I tried scanning it, and my old scanner could not link up, so I went to autozone and they scanned it, turned out to be the egr sensor a circuit high, he said it appeared twice. he cleared it, and i started driving. there was no CEL but it was still sluggish. about 15 mins later the CEL light came back on. Any idea what this code exactly means and best way to fix it? truck is 100% stock. Only thing I can think of is the last few regens were canceled because I was almost done driving so it has not regened in a few weeks. Also, my last fill up was b5 diesel because they were out of normal diesel. Last week I also changed the batteries. Fuel filters were done a few thousand miles ago. I am not noticing any smoke. thanks |

I got this same code a couple of weeks ago. It was my Fuel Rail Pressure sensor that went bad. Its a $34 sensor but the bad part is its located under the passenger side valve cover. After I had mine replaced CEL went away and truck was good as new.

was it covered under warranty, if not, do you know the labor cost? also did you drive with the cel for a while without doing any harm? thanks |

the dealer fixed it under warranty, they had to remove and put in a new egr sensor, of course they broke thier special tool and the sensor (seems to happen to everyone), so they had to pull some of the exhaust and drop the transmission to get to the sensor, and order some new exhaust pipe and a new sensor, all in all it took almost a week but they gave me a rental.

that sensor is a pain in the *** to change and the do frequently break off in the right side up-pipe. best thing to do is get it broken loose and spray it down with penetration oil then working it back and forth until it comes out. hopefully the threads stay in the pipe
