Angry Black smoke on acceleration

My '08 6.4 just started blowing black smoke on acceleration, not a lot, but black still the same. 2500 miles on the odometer. My only mod is the MBRP afterburner back 4" exhaust. Is this a known problem?

Only getting around 9.0 mpg's currently also, not very pleased. My old 2000 7.3 did 13 in town and 18 on the highway! My brother's doesn't get much better at around 10.

From what I can tell on mine so far is that the truck has to be broken in. I got horrible gas mileage as well, but then as the miles started roll it got better. Last time I checked I was getting 15 in the city. As for the smoke, mine did the same thing. I thought that it wasn't suppose to smoke at all from the factory, but according to the stealership, when I asked them, its normal.

Mine has 4000 miles and has never blown any smoke whatsoever. As a matter of fact, my tail pipe still looks as clean as the day I bought it. Not a speck of soot on the exhaust tip at all...inside, outside, it's all completely clean and shiny as new. It amazes me how clean the truck runs. It almost doesn't seem like a diesel truck...until I get on the gas pedal.

My dealer wants to see the truck, they also have another that is putting out soot as well.

It really doesn't have all that much power as well. They are going to check into that as well. Wouldn't pull my Mastercraft X30 from Phoenix to Flagstaff on cruise control.

The DPF is bad and they will change it under warranty.

The DPF is a filter that traps small particles. Your's are getting through so there is a hole, crack, or other flaw in the filter.

They are pretty expensive.

Ha Ha Ha, very funny..........you know what is scary is that these trucks, with only a couple thousand miles on them, are already having to replace the DPF, which cost about 1,500 bucks. Its not going to be too pretty when the warranty goes out.....just a thought

I expect they will burn out very quickly and a better replacement will come out. This item should never be out of warranty. Federal law will require a lifetime warranty on exhaust emissions systems.

That and like someone maybe it was you said in a previous post. yea it stops the particles but then you burn more fuel to burn those particles off and clean the DPF. So first you are burning more fuel less efficently and second the particles (now cooked a lil bit longer and more) are still being released in some sort of form.
