6.4 Work Truck
My buddy is over here at the house and were just shootin' the bull. He drives a late 2007 F-550 at work with the 6.4L in it. (I didn't know you could get the 6.4 in 2007). Anyway, he notorious for breaking stuff.
Here's the deal. He says yeterday the boost gauge was pegged out at 40PSI, but he had no power and the tranny wouldn't downshift at all and it was smoking terribly bad. They have added 1qt of oil in the last week, and they have also added 4 gallons of coolant over the past 2 weeks. Some days it will smoke white, some days it will smoke blue, and some it will smoke black. He says he added the gold coolant to it, idk what the eff that is. My thought is with the way he drives, he has cracked the EGR and Oil coolers. Just looking for your guys thoughts on this and what you think. |

no you cannot get a 6.4 in an 07', its probably a 2008 that was built in 2007, also the coolant dissapearing will most likely be a head gasket job and it leaking into the oil...but that sounds like it really sucks man....good luck

Oh hell, don't good luck me, I don't have to fix it lol. Headgasket woulda been one of my least guesses, woulndn't it leak down the block too?

no it wouldnt. there are several different passages in which oil and coolant pass in the head and the gasket could break along the edges of one of these passages but not the outside edge along the block.i havent heard of the internal oil coolers failing on a 6.4 but anything is possible....egrs are definitely a possibility.

watch it when your running low on coolant and beating the hell outa it. that top egr cooler will run dry and crack. like 2 grand for a new one and the when you ad more coolant. the engine hydrolocks

So far the truck is stillr unning and they are adding like 2 gallons of water a day to it
