Engine Temp Issue

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone here has had or heard of this issue that the dealer hasn't.

We purchased an '08 F450 with 22,000 miles on her. We just took a week long trip driving from Chandler, AZ to Durango, CO. 20 minutes after leaving the house, pulling a 28' toy hauler at about 10,500 lbs, we got a "Reduced Engine Power" message, a temp indicator on the dash and the the temp gauge pegged. It all happened in that order too. As soon as I hopped out of the truck to lift the hood, my wife says the gauge fell back to normal. The engine and rad didn't even feel up to temp yet.

We pressed on since the gauge was back to normal and drove the rest of the way with no issues.

On the way home we had come about 60 miles and it did the same thing three more times in the next 40 miles. Since then, no issues and no stored codes. Dealer can find no problems and has not heard of this issue.

I talk with my friend who is the diesel tech at the Cortez, CO Ford dealer and have our theories.

For now I have to drive it until it happens again.

Thanks for any input!
