more smoke then normal under lite acceleration
My truck seems to be smoking more under light acceleration then it used to. Its a 2008 f350 6.4 w/auto and about 60,000 miles. It has been spartanized with the 275 tune since about 45,000 miles. Other then that it seems to be running good, but the increase in smoke is quite noticeable. At night it seems the cars behind me are driving through quite the haze when following me. I was thinking maybe the EGR was hanging open or maybe an injector starting to go? Anyone else experience this or have any idea what the problem might be?

no I have not had my injectors replaced. Last time my truck was at the dealer, which i admit was some time ago (spring 2009 I believe), my VIN did not fall between the affected trucks. Unless there is some new recall out that I am not awhare of?
The egr is shut down with that tune but still cycles at idle to my understanding. Thought maybe the smoke was a result of the egr not shutting all the way? Last edited by sask08; 06-06-2010 at 10:21 PM. |

I would run a quick test on injector performance, but if the truck has no other issues, i doubt its injector related. Does it do it on the stock tune? Any low-end power loss?

Any updates with your truck? Mine started doing the same (gray black smoke) under light acc. Did your fuel milage drop as well?

I have been so busy i havent really had time to look into the situation. I did however have a brief conversation with a ford tech about it and he figured maybe injectors.
What I have noticed lately though is it seems to be somewhat related to fuel quality, I usually fill up at the flying J but havent been able to lately cuz i've been working out of town for the last couple months. I have been using different fuel lately and it seems to have cleared up for the most part. It does however still do it when it is hot outside. My fuel economy has always been all over the place, running close to 8 inches of lift and 37s any kind of breeze or wind seems to affect my fuel economy greatly. I never noticed any suggnifficant drop though and it is still way better then stock. I think i'm just going to drive it till something comes apart or it pops a code.
