6.4 just sh*t the bed (and had an edge evolution) HELP!
hey guys i recentley just purchased a 2008 f-250 super duty 6.4 with 74,600km, since then i have put on 2100kms.
when i bought the truck it came with an edge evolution and i have ran the truck on the economy level. truck has ran great till today driving out to work pulling a 14 foot office shack (nothing heavy) and less then 5 km out of town i lost power and and the truck shut down blue smoke was spueing from the exhaust ( looked the same as a blown head gasket on a 6.0) and i was not over heating before it shut down. waited till i was stoped waited a minute or so turned the key forward and my truck was in the red zone for temperature and my programmer was flashing the temperture warning. got out poped the hood gave a visular and looked underneather oil all under the passenger side of the motor. i returned my program to stock and removed my programmer. called ford roadside assitance got them to come tow it to my local dealership. going int he morning to give them the keys and hopefully get it delt with SOON. i have hurd some stories of ford finding any reason they can to void warranty. will they be looking for programming and need maitnance records for proof im utd on all maitnance? what other issues should i be bracing to deal with? and any tips would be great because if ford voids my warranty im..... well . HOOPED. thanks |

They will look for one. Did you see oil? If not I would think EGR issues because of the loss of power and smoke

the motor died completley and would not start after and there was oil spilt under the passenger side. so am i pretty much hooped since they will be looking for a programmer?

They had a TSB on the 08 6.4's, for injector o-rings. Apparently, the oring would leak fuel into the cylinder at an accelerated rate, and hydrolock them, and sometimes blowing that injector out of the hole and spewing oil all over. If its that, you might be alright

no i bought it with the programmer and used it on milage. the first trailer i tow and the truck craps the bed? seems like a ford engine failure to me more then the programmer that was set to add 20 hp. but hey thats just me guessing.

Keep us up to date on what you find out. And maybe try to do a little digging yourself, to maybe find where the oil is coming from.

i was on my way to work so i had the tow truck come and got a company truck for the day i didnt have time to find where it was coming from. i went in today to give them the keys etc, truck started right up ran a little rough but no smoke, so i just shut it down and left it for them. ford also towed it for free for me so thats pretty good service. wouldnt mind a rental truck to though

got the call today. found that i had a tuner. they are guessing a blew a hoe through my 5th cylinder. they called me to ask if they want me to go ahead and tear it down i am in the clear as long as when they rip the head off it doesnt have a wear pattern which is common on theese 6.4's if they have been chipped. he said with major engine repairs they have to take a picture of the head and send it to ford. so im crosing my fingures there isnt an irregular wear pattern or my ford warranty is FRIED. i there anything else i can do if they end up pulling the head and it does have the pattern??? the tech said its from the increased injector pressure and it leaves a pattern that looks like a flower on the head?????? anyone hurd of this??

But from what I have heard, alot of completely stock trucks heads have been pulled and they had a star pattern. |
