6.4 failure

Everybody blames the 6.4s problems on emissions on the epa, but doesnt the duramax and the cummins 6.7 have the same setup? As far as the pollution stuff.

THey have to conform to the same Emission standards but as far as I know they aren't going about it exactly the same way.

IE: I don't think Chevy or Dodge are "burning" the soot off in a regen, but I could be wrong.

I know the duamax's new stuff is going to that because they are going to a tip that looks even funnier than the fords. It kinda looks like one of those off of a old beetle that is a cone and sticks straight up.

I think by government regulations, all on-road diesel engines manufactured from 1/1/07 on will be forced to use a DPF on the exhaust system. Whether or not GM or Cummins is using a manual regeneration like the PSD, I don't know. They at least have to have the filter. Ford may be the only one that gives you the cool flamethrower effect!

Wouldn't it be cool to pull up on a ricer just in time for the regen to kick in? See if your "fart can" can do that!

I agree the flames are cool, but just wondered why ford is the only one having problems. The 6.7 is new and the duramax is new this year, and they seem to be doing good. Do you think ford just didnt do enough testing or what? They should have just thew one of those filters on a 7.3

Even with a DPF system, the 7.3 could never attain the super clean levels that are required for the 2007 regulation.

6.4 has got more

My dealer tells me that ford has a software fix to the flame thrower effect
but it will cost about 65 horses to put it in my truck, so for now they can stuff that , I am going to keep running it and hope they come up with a better idea. FLAMES ARE A BOLD MOVE.
