EGR Valve Problems

I have 60K miles on my truck with the DPF/Cat Delete, SCT Tuner, AFE Intake and MBRP Dual Exhaust. I have never had any problems with my truck but yesterday the truck lost all power and once it came to a stop it surged and stopped running. I had the following DTC codes: P042Ea, P0404 and P1335. P042E codes is for EGR Valve stuck in open position. I removed the sensor cover on the valve (after realizing that the valve itself is nearly impossible to remove) and was able to manual move the valve and close it. I left the sensor unhooked and was able to get to the house. The truck runs fine with the sensor unhooked, except that I get a CEL and no cruise control. Anyone else had a problem like this? Is there a bypass available to fool the sensor? Will it harm anything to leave it this way? Thanks.
