Power TakeOff ?

Hiya Folks,

I'm the proud new owner of an F-250/6.4 Powerstroke. Yay! Loving it so far. I do have a question. One option which I didn't particularly want, but ended up with anyway was the transmission PTO (or Power TakeOff)... I only have a very general idea of what this might be used for, and I've done some searching, but I haven't found much.

First of all, what sorts of things DO people use this for?

Are there any Winch's available that use or is compatible with this PTO? Hey, if I could stick a winch on it, that'd make it that much cooler.

Thanks in advance.

Mostly they are used for running hydraulic pumps for dump beds and snow plows and the like!

PTO driven generators. The winches are harder to find as they are marketed more towards industrial use, so usually easier found used.

PTO generator would be awesome, but you would probably have to build it yourself out of off the shelf parts. An 1800rpm generator head would be great because it could be direct drive. It would be much easier to set up than a 3600 head..

I think mile marker makes a winch that is supposed to run off of the power steering hydraulics, but if you get a hydraulic pump and hook it up to the winch it will work. I saw a kit a guy made for sale for around 500 bucks. It looks like it would work great, if, I repeat if, the pto will work with the trans in gear.

ya he is right mile marker makes a hydrualic winch... for your powersteering pump.... i would rather see a standalone pump for the winch myself. just get on mile marker website, i think its the same price as an electric... but you'll need to find a pump.

I know this is an old thread, but I am in need of some info on PTO generators. I found a site Real Power they have custom build PTO generators. My question is has anyone heard of them? Or tried out one of these generators? If yes, did it cost an arm and a leg? Also does ford advise the use of one? thanks in advance for the help.
