I did take a look at the amp steps.... I'm a little hesitant. I find myself in crud all the time, with wires and electric motors down there.... I feel like i'd be asking for trouble.

I think i'm going to sit on this for a bit.

I agree wth Rob.... It is important to me to have the offroad protection and jacking points like i've had in my other trucks. This is only possible using a frame mounted bar.

If I were to sustain a strong enough impact that would bend a frame, I don't think the bars would be my issue. If anything, I would think the bars would help absorb some of the impact and prevent the frame from bending.

Ooh well. I'm going to keep my eyes open.

Rob, if you fabricate a frame mounted bar yourself, take some pictures. I'd like to see how they turn out.

Thanks!

I fail to see how a body-mounted runners offer less offroad protection than frame mounted ones.

That being said, I haven't seen a frame mounted one in YEARS.

The body mounted bars probably offer just as much protection from flying objects (rocks / sticks etc which are thrown around), but the body mounted bars can't support too much weight...... If you were to try and use them to slide your vehicle over an obstacle you would do significant damage.

Frame mounted bars can act as a skid plate of sorts..... they can be used to help slide the vehicle over large obstacles, they can also be used as a jacking point if you needed to lift the vehicle up to change a tire or something.

I haven't seen frame mounted bars on larger trucks, but I think they're still pretty common on mid sized trucks and SUVs..... It's been a while since I looked though.
