08 tailgate--$2900????!!!

I called my dealer (my ford dealer, get yer mind outta the gutter) today, and asked them what it would cost me to buy an 08 tailgate through them. somehow they came up with $2900? For a tailgate? I wasn't planning on getting one from the dealership, I was just curious what they charge people for one. I'm looking in salvage yards and for wrecked trucks to find one that works. But why in the world would a tailgate ever cost $2900?

maybe its for the tailgate with the built in step??, but even still my local dealer says 1200 for that one, without the step my local dealer wants 600 with all the handles latches hardware etc.

Had to of been misquoted. If not, I would love to see the tailgate and the people that have actually paid that much for them.

no mine's an 01 i was just wondering

mine's all beat up from a trailer so i was looking to get a new one.. why not an 08 one? i can just gut the torsion bar right? or isn't there a bracket to mount it on mine while keeping the torsion bar? the guy was like "yeah when i worked as a parts manager at leif johnson up north we had 3 08 tailgates stolen and each one was 2900 to replace, just for the tailgate and hardware"

i don't know. and then a body shop related to the dealership quoted me 1300 to replace my 01 tailgate. i guess i just look like someone they should rip off??

To keep the torsion bar you just need the driver's side bracket/hinge that gets bolted to the truck.
Just picked mine up earlier for $6 at the dealer.


You can get used 08 tailgates w/o the step for $300-450, sometimes cheaper.


A guy on another forum bought one with a step and a camera for $350 I think.....off of craigslist. Guy put one of those fifth wheel notched/vented tailgates on and sold the OEM one for cheap.
