What makes these so hard to install?
How do they operate in winter when you get a huge iceball built up behind the front tires?

The AMP motor cuts out when there is pressure applied so as not to break like what happens with the Kodiaks....as for in the snow, I couldn't tell you because I am in Phoenix....lol... I did live in Buffalo for most of my life so I know a little about snow and I don't think it will be an issue.....the salt may become more of an issue than anything so just make sure you wash the steps off

As for the wiring, you need to wire into the door switch so they open and close with the door...its not like the Kodiaks with the pressure switch that you drilled a hole for, those break all the time

I have 3 sets of AMP steps on 3 trucks and live in northern IL where the roads are heavily salted and we get a good amount of snow.

I've never had any issues with the salt or the ice.
I do think that the diodes that AMP sends don't like the cold....need to try replacing them on the 05 F-150 before winter (passenger side step doesn't always open/close with door....only in winter).
They used different diodes back when I got the ones for my 01 F-350 and I used diodes from my buddy's shop when we installed them on my 07 F-350 so they both work flawlessly.

I've washed my 01 in the winter with -20* windchills and while ice was forming on the truck rather fast, I didn't have any issues with the steps (truck was covered in road salt...had to get it off).

They do send a wiring diagram with the steps, but finding the correct wire sometimes is difficult.

The 13.5" from the door sill to the step sounds right. I'll measure my 07 when I go back out to the shop after lunch.

Yep, I'm thinking if I can get a nice set of steps that drop lower than the stock steps, I can lift the truck higher

My main concern at this point is, I'm curious as to how much weight they can hold from the bottom...as if you were to get high centered and set the truck on the steps.
