New truck...first mod

After having purchased my truck, it was only a matter of a few weeks before wishing it had come with the FX4 (wide mouth) grille as opposed to the chrome grille with the two, fixed, horizontal bars in the center. So I decided to do something on my own. I found an FX4 factory grille on ebay that I ended up getting for a mere 75 dollars. It was said to be in perfect condition but we'll see when it arrives. Either way, when it arrives, I'm going to gut it of the black, horizontal bars. Then I'm going to purchase the Carriage Works horizontal bar grille insert. When it arrives, I'm going to make all the necessary modifications to the FX4 grille (cutting and such) and then send the grille off to have the color body matched. Once finished, I'll have a body matched, Dark Stone FX4 grille with the Carriage Works insert. Since the FX4 isn't available in Dark Stone, then this will be a complete one-off that I think will look really good. Give me your opinions.

look at the color code in the door and get the paint to match off that code and dIY it and u could have it done prob. faster/cheaper

That's a good point. However, it helps to have friends in various trades and fortunately, I do. I can build just about anything with wood but paint is a completely different story!

The FX4 grille has finally arrived. I wasn't at all happy with it's condition since it was horribly packed. It's scratched up pretty bad. However, it really isn't an issue to me since it's being prepped and painted anyway. Once the painting is complete, I'll snag the grille inserts from Carriage Works and I'll be in business. I can't wait to see the end result. I know this isn't much of an update. More of a tease, actually. However, it's in progress.
