painting mirror caps

I know that the mirrors with PTM caps are 2 piece compared to the one piece... anyways I'm wanting to know if anyone has bought those stick on chrome caps and painted them to match their truck?

Not getting much of a response, I'll probably just end up ordering some and trying it.

I know it's been done, I've seen a truck my same color with painted caps. Not sure if they're those cheap $50 stick ons though

If I were going for black or another basic color I'd do it myself. I have no clue how to mix colors to match so I'll end up having my local paint shop do it

The mirror caps just pop right off... You have to carefully remove the upper glass if I remember correctly. I took my entire mirror off and apart then high fill primed the snot out of it and now have color matched mirrors... Just a warning taking the mirror all the way apart if you plan on color matching the whole thing is not for the faint of heart. But to answer the original OP's question in full, yes you can paint the chrome caps if you prep them and scuff up the chrome well. Mine were chrome and have been painted for over a year with no worries. I ordered my paint from Automotivetouchup.com Touch Up Paint, Aerosol Spray Paint and Touchup Paint Accessories | AutomotiveTouchup | 888-710-5192, pricey but great products.

Thanks for the tips. I used paint from them on my 05 swap with my old truck. I'm gonna give it a try after pay day.
