Are the mirror caps changeable?

Question--I bought a set of the 08 mirrors when I backed into a piling with my old set. Anyway, are the caps interchangeable like with the older models? I like the idea of getting the while KR caps for mine, but I have yet to figure out if its possible.

He's talking about the mirror head covers. They should be interchangeable.

On the newer 2008 mirrors, its the top portion that pops off & on. they will either be the grainy black, chrome, or color matched.

I didnt know they made chrome ones. I still have yet to see anyone offer these or figured out a part number. Thanks for the info--my real issue was whether they actually did come apart or not

all of the caps are OEM from Ford. The chrome ones would be off the chrome edition trucks. The smooth paintable ones would come from the KR's and the FX4 and XLT sport editions, if I'm not mistaken.

Welp....As an up[date I ordered a set of the chrome caps and got them in today. However, I'm having a helluva time trying to get the stock cap off of there! It almost seems impossible without destroying something. I wish I could get a hold of a diagram that could help. Anyone else tried this yet?

Well i hope you can figure out how to get those bad boys on there because i ordered a set from the dealer and told them to put them on for me and they said it would not be interchangeable with my mirrors on my 2008 lariat. He said they are only interchangeable with the FX4 and KR mirrors and thats because they are actually different mirrors. I had no choice but to believe him but the mirrors look the same to me. I sure hope he was wrong and u can figure out how to swap them because the chrome ones would look really sweet on my silver truck!!!!
