I had an F-150 before I bought my SD, and one of the biggest things that I wished it had was puddle lights. So I decided to add some, which turned out great and was one the best mods you could do for $10.
I had to this to the SD, so I started it the other day and finished the passenger side, but not the drivers side (still looking for the right wire to tap into for the dome light on/off/dimming). They are mounted to the bottom side of my factory running boards/nerf bars. I don't have the pictures up yet, but will soon. However, just to give you an idea I'll post pictures from my F-150. If anyone wants more details on this I would be more than happy to pass along any and all information you'd like.
I was going to mention that, the picture is a bit hard to see because of the flash, but I will take a picture later tonight with my flash off so you can see them better. They are actually pretty damn bright.
I actually sealed them in clear silicone to make sure they were easy to keep clean and didn't get beat up too much. I didn't have any issues with the F-150, even with the snow and everything that the great Michigan climate throws out.
Theres a purple wire near the smart junction box on the passenger side kick plate that is intended for the running board lights, and I just tapped into that one. So far so good, they are working out great.
i really like this idea looks great! so they only come on when like the door is opened or you unlock the truck?? which wire is on the dirver side you tapped into??
alos which purple wire are you going to exactly i popped the kickplate this afternoon and they are about eleventeen different types of purple down there i.e(blue w/purple stripe, purple w/brown stripe etc...) Thanks a lot really like what you did and came up with and would like to do it as well!!
I'll check tonight and try and take a picture of the wire for you guys. I used two on each side so a total of four, and to date they are holding up great. I tied them all in together to make it easier. They go on and dim down with your interior lights whenever your lock/unlock the doors.
