Some aftermarket grills make you cut up your existing grill and bolt the new one onto it.

Thats all I can think of.

I know this is an old thread, but it's probably because the regular grill and the FX4 grill are different.

I believe the FX4 grill and the XL are the same except for the paint. Not 100% sure but I just installed a Smittybilt grill on my black XL grill.

No, I believe the grills are different. The FX4 has the main shell painted, yes. However, the matte black bars are recessed below the level of the painted shell, where as on the XL, XLT, Kind Ranch and all, the horizontal bars are flush with the rest of the shell.
Here is a '08-'10 FX4

And here is a '08-'10 XL

I believe only the insert is different but the base shell is the same. Once you remove (cut) the insert bars on the XL and the FX4 they are fundamentally the same. My smittybilt grill specifically says "only compatible with XL and FX4" grills as does the RBP.

THAT EBAY GRILL IS PROBABLY MEANT TO BOLT ON OVER THE EXISTING OPENING ,SO NOTHING HAS TO BE CUT...if you cut an XL grill the edges of the insert would still be exposed
