Painted Door Handles

For all of you who have done this before.
I want to paint my door handles black. The paint on my truck looks great except the handles. The recessed part of the door handle is all scratched to hell.
How hard is it to get the handle out or should I just leave it in and tape it off? How many coats should it take???
What kind of paint would work best??
Any other advice is welcomed.

I got mine painted at a body shop for 60 bucks... Cant give any advice, but heres a bump.
