Tailgate Lock help

I put an 08 tailgate on my 99 truck.
My question is what can I do to have peace of mind that someone won't rip off my tailgate when I'm parked in town... I have the stock lock but since it came off a different truck I can't use it.

My dealer quoted me $150+ for a new lock cylinder and re-key, plus the labor to take it all apart is extra. There's gotta be another way.

I have seen people put hose clamps on the hinges. I guess that would just slow the thieves down . I was lucky and just swapped the lock from my old tailgate to the new one and keep it locked.

haha that could work but I still want the whole quick remove thing to work

Other thing too is that my old tailgate didnt even lock/unlock with my current ignition key so either way I was screwed...

I just thought about this thread...lock your tailgates Post #17 looks like a good idea. I guess thats about all you can do without getting a new lock cylinder.

Have you tried calling a locksmith to cut you a key? I am sure it would be way cheaper than Ford.
