tailgate bracket?

i finally got my recon light bar one that was not damaged in shipping only took 3 times! went and started tapping wires and looked on the best mounting spot and theres a damn bracket in the way does anyone know what purpose this bracket has its on the right side as you look at the back and it has a part that mounts to the gate and one that mounts to the bed seems to me like a guide of sorts bottom line is its in the way.

I think that bracket is to keep the taigate aligned. I noticed my bosses truck has that too. You probably could take it off .

i was looking at my buddies 08' 250 harley and it did not have them so i dont know if they started in 09' but i think they are going bye bye!!

i have been searching for a tailgate diagram to tell me what the bracket is no luck i even dug into the 08 conversions i did not see it on any of them nor did it mention them. i am about to go take them off and see what they are and do. anyone have them on their 09's and know what they do?

It was posted somewhere that the guide is to keep the tailgate centered in an accident. Since the hinges just slide in, from the sides, it is a last ditch effort to keep the tailgate from flying off during an impact if the bed is distorted and the hinge area widens.

Does anyone know why some trucks have them and some don't? I have a job 1 and it does not have it. I have two friends with job 3 trucks, one has it and the other doesn't. Their trucks have the same extras.

My Job 3 has one, I had no idea what it was for. I also ran into the exact same problem trying to install my light bar. In fact, I still haven't installed it because if this guide. I think I'll just take it off

Mine is before Job 1 ( not on the window sticker) I have one.

i guess they throw them on when they want but i removed the bracket that bolts to the bed and left the one on the gate it was not in the way two bolts simple! it just appears to be a guide slot bracket on the bed and half moon blade on the gate i dont see how that would help in a collision but it could keep the gate from wondering left or right if the bushings wore out. al that matters is the light bar is on!!!
