JL Audio 12-TW5
Well, I think the JL Audio 12-TW5 or 13-TW5 is what I've settled on to handle the lower end of my stereo's spectrum. I'm not terribly thrilled with the idea of the JL Stealth box with a single 8W6 in box designed to fit in the center console. I really don't want to lose the storage space and although I admit that I've never heard the 8W6, I question just how much an 8" sub can move air. Yes I know the W6 line is an amazing line of subs, but I rear that one 8" sub just ain't gonna cut it for my needs.
Next, the choices for boxes are extremely limited and all that I've seen require the use of a Pioneer shallow mount sub which I do not want. Therefore, since I have some experience with this stuff I'm going to make my own sub box and use just one of these listed above. I also already have an old school Phoenix Gold XS2500 amp which will compliment this sub perfectly. It's an amp that can be bridged to make 500W RMS @ 4ohms. Perfect. |

Actually, I'm familiar with his work and his techniques. I did a bit of research before I became a member here. I can certainly appreciate the fact that all of his boxes are fabricated via a CNC machine. That is the same method by which I'd do my own. I tried to look closer to see what method of joinery his boxes used but in most cases, I couldn't tell. I'd guess that because of the fact that many of his boxes are custom pieces, that most of the joinery used is butt joint. All mine would be dado and rabbet construction but that's specifically because positive placement of parts always aids in a simple build. Thanks very much for the tip, though. Plenty of helpful people around these parts. It becomes more evident on a daily basis.
