Question HID Trouble.....

Ok I'll try to make this short.....when I first got the truck the 1st thing I did was put a HID single beam 12K kit on the truck and man does it look sweet.....for the last couple months the driver side headlight has been giving me problems......like when I go to hit the unlock on the key fob they will both come on but then the drive side will go out about 15 sec later....that bothered me but I lived with it........then it started this flickering thing when I turn them on with the switch, well I would turn them off and on and that would fix it.....well last night I went to head out to get some beer and they both came on then the drive side went out.....so I did the off on thing and it didnt work ...... so I ended up tearin' off the would front end to mess with them last night.....here is what I found and I need your guys' input.....I hooked up the driver side bulb to the passenger and it worked fine...so is not the bulb.....I checked the fuses and those are fine....I robbed the power converter off the HIDs on my prerunner, which I know works, and still nothing...I checked, rechecked, and triple checked the wiring....what am I missing guys? HELP!!!

Does your kit use the pre-wired harness?

Yes it does.....but I figured that was giving me trouble because the connections seemed loose, so I by passed the connectors and directly spliced the harness from the truck and the harness from the HID kit together....is that not good?

If I'm reading you right, it sounds like you may not be getting enough voltage to kick off the ballast. Have you by chance tried plugging in the other ballast into the side that works?

I had the exact same problem with my 8000K's and finally got fed up and took them out. I sent them to the seller and he tested the ballast and said it was fine. I haven't had time to put em back in yet, but now my stock headlight on the same side works about half the time. Funny thing is if I'm driving and notice the drivers light out, I turn the fog lights off and back on and this turns the headlight on. Any ideas???

Well hell anything is worth a shot...I'll try the fog light thing....that might be what is need to what Gcop was talk about, in that its not getting enough volts to kick start the ballast

Julian the only other thing you can try is to turn the input plug around on the ballast from your Prerunner, sometimes in different vehicles and different production models of the HID ballasts, for some reason, they are reversed, you won't hurt anything.

are the ballast and igniter one unit with your kit??? either way check to see if the ballast or both boxes are making contact with anything metal that will cause them to ground out. this would account for the problems you are seeing.
