Well I was told today by my salesman who spoke with service who said my truck doesn't need the calibration tool. The sales guy did not have a good reason except that my wheels have the bands on them but I told him since the cost of one of these tools is $700.00 (that's what he said ) I wanted a letter in writing on their letterhead telling me I did not need the tool. I said if I go get new tires or rotate the ones I have and I need that tool for some reason I am going to be pissed if I have to buy one for $700.00 and that I was coming back to them for the tool. He reassured me that I did not need it even though the manual called for one. He said he would be happy to get one out of another truck as if it were missing but that all the trucks on the lot don't one.

Reading the previous posts maybe he is right. Both my front and rear tires are supposed to be at 65psi. So pressure is the same and thus would not need the tool to recalibrate... makes sense. As an aside my sticker says 65psi but my tires say 80psi and the light would not go off until I had all four tires at 80psi.

there is a page in the owners manual where it talks about the tps and the fact that the dealer should provide it to you. i doubt it's a 700 dollar tool. it is a small key fob lookin deal with a green button in the middle. weather he thinks you need it or not it says you should have one so i would get one. i guess it's up to you but i didn't get one with my truck so i called tham and ask for it and had it the next day. it sounds to me like you got someone who didn't know what you were talkin about and rather than ask he just fed you a line. i think there will be a time when you need it and wish you had pushed the issue.

haha, I heard the same thing at one point. What he was talking in my case was having to buy a programmer which would allow the setting of the tire revolutions to configure the speedo accurately and/or reprogram the TPMS sensor for a new setting.

Problem is, that programmer isn't available yet for '08 models, it is on older models which is probably what he's thinking. Show him the pages in the manual with the information regarding the TPMS FOB, it actually says it should be given with the manuals.

Keep hounding them about it, be nice, but keep hounding them. In my case, the dealer just wasn't aware of the FOB because they weren't receiving them with the trucks. They had to call Ford MoCo to find out about it and make sure they started receiving them with delivered trucks.

I was told yesterday that if your tires pressures on the inside door pillar are the same 65psi front and rear that you do not need the calibration tool. I talked to 3 dealerships and they all told me the exact same thing. So not sure....

you shouldn't need it for rotations but you may need it if you ever need to reset the sensor. you may not need it but i would make sure i had one in case i did.

The tool that comes with the truck is about $15.00 from Ford, I just bought one for a customer(we lost his) and it doesn't let you reprogram the pressure, and all of the tools for Ford trucks (F150/F250?/F350) have the same part # programming is in the trucks computer, not the sensor, the sensor is strictly a radio frequency pickup, the computer translates.
