Looking for some pics and information on an aftermarket deck. wanting navi, bluetooth and ipod hookups on a touch screen. I have an alpine IVA-D310 but I want to instal a double din deck in my truck. Anyone want to share on what they are running.
Connecting the Aux (Line-in not USB) is really fairly simple...no wiring involved if you already have the Aux port (if you do not the wiring is simple). All you have to do is have your unit programmed to turn on the Line-In port. In the settings this setting is call Aux-Jack I believe. Once this setting is turned on, your system will have another tab on the screen when you press the "Media" hard button. This tab will be labeled "Line-In". This allows you to connect any audio device which has a headphone jack simply by getting a 1/8 headphone cord (male plug on both sides) and plugging one end into your Aux port on your dash and the other end into your media device's headphone port. Now this is not as cool as the USB connection offered by Sync connectivity because it offers no control over the connected device. But it is an easy way to get external media player connected.
FYI you can check what options are enabled in your system by pressing the #3 button and the #6 button at the same time. This will initiate a speaker test where the system sends a tone to each speaker in turn. You can cancel out of this test by pushing the button in the lower right. From there you presented with a menu...from this menu there is an option called Configuration Settings (or something similar). Select that option and you will see a scrollable list of the settings for your system. If the Aux-Jack setting is set to 0 then it is turned off. I am still trying to determine if this setting is automatically disabled when the APIM (Sync) setting is turned on.
I have the 2009 nav in my 2008 and it is going to be taken out. Can't hook ipod to it and the wiring sounds like a nightmare. I orederd the Pioneer Z110B this thing has every bell and whistle the 2009 deck did with voice recognition and all the other stuff. I am building a system for my truck and gotta have ipod. Other than that I loved the deck.
Ok after reading all the pros and cons about the 2 brands I was thinking about. I am now confused. I was looking at the brand new avic pioneer and they dont have that good of reviews on it. I also heard that the kenwoods flagship HU has problems as well. I also heard that the kenwoods just stop working out of the blue. Plus Crutchfield wants a person to buy the pac for the sync to work. Can anyone give me a little help here. tell me what models you suggest between the kenwood and pioneer.
anyone have reviews on the DNX7160 kenwood or the 8120? it looks to me that the 8120 has 2 built in relays for anything.. kinda would be cool to push the touch screen to up the idle in the truck It looks to me that the 7160 is a good one though also. Just no information or reviews on it.
I dont know alot about the other decks you listed but the ones I am considering are, in order of preference: Alpine iVA-W505, Pioneer AVIC-x710BT, and the JVC KW-AVX830. You can check them all out at Crutchfield but you can probably find them cheaper elsewhere.
Is that an AVIC series HU? what model. I'm looking for one that has all that with an internal HDD for ripping song to internal storage. That's one reason why I'm eyeing the AVIC Z3, but cost is keeping me away. I might have to do without the intoernal HDD and just use my ipod. It really doeasn't matter since the ipod is 80GB anyway.
What about the Avic-z100bt? I like the full screen without knobs. or the new Kenwood X9960? any reviews on these? I know kenwood has a wider band eq vs the pioneer. but the price on the pioneer is a heck of a lot cheeper. I think they both get really good reviews, but I would like everyones opinion on what they think
I have the Avic-Z2 which I upgraded to a Z3. Has the iPod, Bluetooth, XM-NavTraffic integrated, also works with the factory stereo controls and works well with the two DVD units in the headrests. Absolutely awesome system in my opinion.
I would do it all again with no changes if I had to do it over.
my only deal with full touch and no knobs is the volume is a pain to mess with... the knob makes it easier when all the other stuff is controlled by the touch screen which makes it nice...
I have a heavily modded f700 bt but if I had to get another one I would get either the f900bt or f910 bt and mod them too. Can't beat all the features.I have my music through the ipod flash drives and a sd card plus sirius and the hd radio and regular radio.I am probably going to have to buy another unit or two for the wife and one for my vette. The f700bt spoiled me pretty good.:thumb:
Rohan, if your able to find an Avic-Z2 you can add the Z3 programming to it and make it a Z3. That's what I've done. The Z2 should be cheaper then the Z3 if you can find one.
I had a Kenwood DNX9140 and loved it after upgrading the software. Thieves are enjoying it now as the truck was broken into and everything taken. Looking at the DNX9960 now but unsure due to software glitches.
Does anyone know if the PAC C2R-FRD1 is required if you have the Audiophile system on 08+ or is there another wiring harness adapter (cheaper) that can be used? I've got amps and all speakers wired to the back so I don't need everything this unit offers.
Ok Im pretty much set on getting the 9960. Dolent, as far as the glitches go, I read in one of the many of forums that Ive been going through for a good answer if this is a good deck or if I should go with the pioneer. They said that they have a software update for them. Also, your doing the same thing I want to do. Just use the power pretty much for the deck right? Anyhow, I seen in crutchfield they have a PAC device for the sync to work on a aftermarket deck. I believe the price is 200 bucks. If you did wire everything to the amps, would you actually need that device? or is that if you still want the option of sync to work? Finding information on the new kenwood as far as forums is a little hard as far as reviews go. Ive went to toyota, chevy, corvette and a few other car sites to get more information on this thing. What makes it harder is when you get a bunch of great reviews on it... then a few that hate the thing. I think its a pretty sweet radio myself, plus you can run a center channel vs the pioneer
After reading tons of fourms, for around a couple weeks now. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Kenwood Dnx 9960. Picked it up for a little better price then crutchfied. Im pretty excited to install it now! I do have a question though. Can I hook up my OEM camera to the back of this deck vs using the mirror? or is it a pain in the butt? I hope this was the right route to take vs the way cheaper pioneer. :thumb:
wish ya luck with it... only thing I really didnt like about the kenwoods was some of their touch screens required you to go through several menus to just to get to a simple thing... plus I got my avic for 600 shipped new in box
Yeah I know, thats the killer thing. I was looking at u tube and most of the vids dont make it look too complicated. Of coarse their was bad reviews on both units also. The only thing that would bother me is the nav traffic since its free with the ads. hey one more question for u 09monster, do you have the sync option? and if you do, did you just bypass it? and is their a way to run the back up camera to the new deck vs the mirror? Thanks buddy!
unsure what the sync thing is you ask of... if thats the thing with the parking brake yeah I bypassed it... basically I have steering wheel controls, bypassed the trigger to allow dvds and navi work while in motion and installed a license plate backup camera that I can also switch to while driving to monitor **** if needed
Ok, the sync deal is something that came with my 2010. Its like a voice command system like the pioneers and kenwoods have. Also it can navigate has 911 assist and other stuff. Basically just like what your deck can do now. And it sounds like you put a aftermarket camera in vs my stock one that is intergrated into the mirror. Anyhow, crutchfield sells this pac system for the sync and its around 200 bucks. Just diddnt know if I had to buy it. Im guessing that I wont though
right on bud! im probably gonna just eliminate the sync feature. hopefully my droid can pair to the radio. and then I also have to get an Ipod cable for it still.
Sawed Off: regarding the back up camera I've been looking at doing this for a while (switching it from the mirror to the deck). It is possible but difficult at best. I think the best option is to keep that one in place and add a additional camera that you turn on/off from the deck to monitor your tow... I'm getting the 9960 this week for a great deal through one of my home theater distribution channels. Looking forward to getting it in. Still haven't seen anything on just running power/ground/illum/etc. instead of purchasing the pricey PAC CAN-BUS adaptor.
Can you just get a ford harness and bypass the sync function? I was hoping that I could just go around that feature. I never have used it... or isn't it that simple?
I've only found PAC's harness for the CAN-BUS but you could just splice into the right wires and bypass a harness altogether.
