Big Mess
I have a 2009 F-350 4X4 cab & Chassis..I bought the truck new from New Country Auto Center in Durango, Colorado. I took the truck in several times under the new truck warranty for steering problems & the transfer case wouldn't go into low range. They said the truck just needed to loosen up. I use the truck to make my living & can't afford to have it down. I also bought the largest extended warranty. Now the truck has 52,000 miles on it & it has 6 inches of slack in the steering, still the transfer case won't go into low range, & it smokes out from under the hood when the regen comes on. I took the truck in over a week ago. Come to find out, I have a GE extended warranty & they won't fix it. The man that did all the paperwork didn't give me the correct warranty even though I told him what I intended to do with the truck. It cost almost $3,000. New Country in Durango, Colorado sold this dealership about 3 months ago & although a Ford dealership, they're not responsible they said. They have everything fixed but the transfer case. They put a new motor on the transfer case but that didn't fix it. They can't find the problem. Does anyone know what could be the problem? I've had to turn 2 jobs down because of this. Also, New Country Auto Center has a dealership in Cortez, Colorado. Just a little friendly advice "Stay Away From Them". Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Isnt all of the steering and what not covered under the 60k warranty? If so they should still fix it no matter what your extended warranty says. Sounds to me like your dealership is just trying to make you jump through hoops so they dont have to fix anything. I would be taking the truck to another dealership for a second opinion and better service. A good dealership will see that this is a reoccuring issue since day one and should help you through the process.

Take it somewhere else. Your factory warranty like stated by blackcloud is enough. You dont have to go to the dealer that you purchased. Most want you to.
There are all sorts of things with steering issue, i think thats the worst thing to me to try and figure out. Steering gears could be wore....Ball joints also. mine had 35k on it and i had to replace ball joints and my track bar. and that solved my issue. i have a little play in the steering wheel, and i think its time to look into I think its "redhead steering gears" Also you may be do for a new steering shock as well.Good luck |

I forgot to add, the stock steering stabilizer on these trucks SUCK! I added a dual set up and that helped my steering wander alot. I did this even before I went to my 35's.
