clicking noise coming from steering column

For the past few months i have been hearning a clicking noise when i turn the steering wheel it doesnt matter whether the car is moving or not. The noise is coming from under the steering column and it doesnt happen all the time has anyone else had this problem.

i get it sometimes. my buddy with an 09 gets it too. i was scared it was casued by my lift so brought it up with him and he said he has the same thing. it seems to be only when i first get in it in the morning. like 2 clicks and i dont hear it again.

yea thats how it started for me too but lately it was becoming more frequent. I took my truck for the 30,000 mile service and told the service advisor about the clicking noise, four hours later he calls me and tells me that the tech took thetruck for a drive and couldnt hear anything so he told me to come in and go for a road test with the service manager. When we went for the test the steering wheel started making the noise right away and pretty frequent. The servicer manager said it was probably a bearing that they would look at it. I got a call two hours later saying that the needed to replace the entire steering column, good thing is that its covered under warranty so well see if this fixes the problem I should get my truck back on tuesday.

My 08 F250, 32k mi, is starting to make a clicking sound that is coming from the steering wheel. There is also play in the wheel if you rock it from side to side. The Ford dealer is telling me that this is typcial and not a defect. Anyone else have this situation? The truck drives fine, but the clicking concerns me. Truck is at the dealer now and my warranty ends in two weeks so I want to get this addressed now if it is a problem.

Update: So the clicking noise went away once they replaced the steering column now at 66,000 miles the clicking is starting to happen again and now I am out of warranty does anybody know what this could be maybe bearing in the steering column need to be greased.

I just bought an 09 F350 today and I noticed once I drove it through town. Anyone have any ideas I am a little OCD and this will really bother me down the road

Mine does it on occasion. Sounds like a u-joint on the steering shaft

I have a clunk sound that comes, from what I can tell; under the steering wheel itself. But it seems to only happen when I turn left. I don’t have any play in the steering wheel. I have yet to find out where it is coming from. If any of you guys find what making the noise let me know. Thanks.

Same here! i have play in my steering wheel side to side as well as up and down... When turning to the left around a corner at speed it gets to a point where it catches almost, almost like i could let go of the steering wheel and it would just stay right there turned to the left... I can turn past it but its definately noticeable.
