unknown noise-HELP
I have a new 2006 f-250 Powerstroke 4-door, 4x4 truck. At this time I only have 4900 miles on it. Shortly after I purchased the truck I noticed a noise that sounded like a belt squeal noise. At first the noise was noticeable when you first cranked up the truck in the morning while warming it up. You could drive the truck about fifty miles and the noise would go away until you turned the truck off and let it cool. Cranking the truck after it had cooled somewhat the noise would be noticeable again.
I took the truck to the local dealership. The also noticed the noise. They put a new belt on the truck. I drive the truck for about a week and the noise came back same as before. Took the truck back to the dealership and they put a new belt tensioner, a new belt idler pulley, and a new belt. I then drove the truck for about two weeks and the noise is coming back. Does anyone have any ideas on the cause of this noise? It's got to be coming from the belt or some other pulley. I just say it's got to be coming from the general location since the noise would go away after the dealership would put a new belt on. Any help would be greatly appreciated |

Since my first post my truck has been back at the dealership three more times for the belt noise. Each time the dealership would change a different pulley and put on a new belt. The noise would go away for almost two weeks then it would return. The dealership even put on a new alternator on, but it even didn’t get rid of the belt noise. On my last trip to the dealership they replaced the Crank Pulley and another idler pulley along with a new belt. At this time I have driven the truck for almost two months and NO belt noise has returned. I wanted to let anyone else know the possible fix if they were having the same problems. I just recently seen the Ford has released a TSB on this issue. TSB: Belt Noise/Chirp/Squeal on Cold Start-up: This concern is currently under investigation. Verify that the belt is not frayed and is tracking true, and there are no obvious pulley concerns. If no problems are found, do not attempt a repair at this time. Broadcast Message 7055. If anyone needs more information on what parts or part numbers they replaced on my truck that fixed the unknown belt chirp/squeal noise please e-mail me at scbrown74@netzero.com Thanks Scbrown74

My 2006 has the same noise. I have ask about it twice when I had it in for other issues or service. They have never found the problem and don't even list it on my receipt. I'm trying to work through an oil leak now that I suspect to be the bedplate. Dealer changed rear main seal even though the dye they added to the oil showed on both sides of the engine where the bedplate and upper oil pan meet. Maybe they will fix this noise by accident while trying to find the oil leak. I think I need to find a new dealership in Knoxville TN.
