"SCREACH" sound after engine shut off

Haven't been able to find this one yet. Whats the screaching sound coming from the engine right after I shut down the engine. Its not real bad or loud. I always let it idle for a few seconds before shutting down. Is it the turbo? Sounds like metal stopping on metal with no lube, its cant be good. However I hear most Fords & Dodges doing this (Dodges are really loud though)

no one answered yet... i'll give you my thoughts. i think it's the belts, during shutdown, the crank pulley stops quick, the others might be slipping a little when they stop.

anyone back me up on this?

john

Is it the belt coming to a sudden stop...we had to install a special one way clutch on our Humvees at the shop so that they would stop doing that...it allowed the engine to stop but the generator could still spin...we were breaking belts left and right.

nice to see a Montana in here, Helena myself but stationed in ca, yes i agree we had to do that to our hmmwv's also to help cut back on generator wear and breaking generator bolts in the heads and the belts, most people think its the turbo but its not.

but yeah im pretty sure that it's your belt and i don't think that there is anything you can do about it. If it is a new PSD take it in and get warranty work done on it. Is it a manual? if you shut it off in gear that will sometimes cause it. I shut my truck off with my torque converter still locked and it made that sound...i didn't know why until i went to back up and it stalled.

Im a Montana Boy born in Big Timber and also lived near Bozeman in a town called Manhattan. The service landed me here in Washington and now that im out, im here to stay for good. But as for the question...it sounds like the belts. My friend has a newer Dodge that did the same thing, and they have a TSB to have the pulleys replaced.
