Thermostat?
Just looking for confirmation on this. The engine has been reaching full opertating temps with no issues even at -35*F while still providing excellent cab heat. However, over the last 3 days, the engine is barely making it to 1/4 on the temp gauge and my cab heat is luke warm at best. The coolant level is good and the engine has never puked coolant. I am pretty sure it is the thermostat. Anything I need to know out of the ordinary when changing the stat? Keep in mind I'll be doing this outside when it's well below freezing so I need it to go as quickly and as headache free as possible. Thanks in advance.

Thanks to everyone that replied to my thread.
Anyway, for those of you that may ask the same questions as I did, here are some answers.Be prepared to lose about 4 qts of coolant. There is more coolant higher up in the engine than I anticipated. The stat housing should come right off with little effort after you remove the air filter assembly. Other than that, you should be able to do the job in about an hour. Hope this helps somebody else down the road. |

It certainly did fix the problem. The stat comes as a unit with the housing. I'm not sure what you guys south of the border would pay but it was under $30 wholesale Canadian.
