I have a 05 f350 6.0 and I have been having some issues with it. Issue was when I crank it and its been sitting it would run really bad and jump to high idle for the first min or so and then it would run perfectly.
I was told to get 2 bottles of Lucas through it and see how that done. Well it worked great, truck done great on 2 or 3 tanks of fuel.
Well I was leaving dinner last night and the truck didn't want to start, but after a couple minutes it fired up and ran fine.. Same thing this morning.. I did hit the gas panel and it helped it crank..
I drove the truck around for about 30 minutes and stopped and turned it off and now all it will do is turn over.....
WHAT CAN I TRY TO GET IT RUNNING??? Until I can get it into a shop the first of the week..
Gonna be really hard to find your problem without a monitor, quality scan tool or Auto Enginuity. As far as running bad after sitting for a while, do you mean after it has sat over night and engine is cold? When it does start, does it feel like a miss that goes away after 10-20 seconds? If so, the first thing I would do is get a volt meter and check your FICM voltage while cranking.
Go to auto zone, or call your local parts store, I think Napa carries them as well, and pickup a scan gauge 2 device and read possible codes, also on scan gauge's site. You can add ficm main and logic powers, and ICP and other PID's for monitoring if you don't like to get a meter and possibly short your ficm while inserting the probes. That way with scan gauge you can see what the truck is doing while cranking.
As stated before auto enginuity is far superior, and price reflects that as well.
I unplugged that sensor yesterday and still nothing... However I went back this morning and done the same thing and it fire up... So now I have it home in my shop cooling off waiting to work on it
So does this sound like the dummy plugs?
sorry guys I don't know much about diesels.. I'm learning fast tho lol
If you're going to go in and replace the dummy plugs then I would suggest replacing the stand pipes and the STC fitting while you are at it. Oh and maybe get the updated turbo drain tube while you're at it and pull the IPR and check the screen.
It could be the dummy plugs, stand pipes or the STC fitting or any combination of the 3. If you're gonna replace the dummy plugs, you'd be crazy to not replace the stand pipes as well IMO.
Do the voltage test on your FICM first, it's quick and easy. If it's just your FICM giving you trouble it will save you A LOT of time diving in and chasing things.
Started out having rpm swings at idle and while driving, high idle would kick on as soon as truck fired up and would run real bad for a min or so. Then fine for the rest of the day. Some times it losses power until I stop and then is fine. Ams now its started this just turning over deal.
