TooCold

I have a 2003 6.0 in an F250. it got damn cold and my truck started to miss and sputter(first time in the 3 years I've owned it). I assumed it gelled up, so I dumped in a 32 oz bottle of 911 and changed the filters. Now it will idle for about 10 minutes and it will start to load up, black smoke will alternate with white and then just quit. It takes several tries to restart. My guess is its a sensor, question is which one? I'm open to any guidance

can you pull the codes?

mine started doing the same crap, but i figure the cold weather might just be a coincidence. i got codes p0404 and p0405... these indicate and EGR valve problem. I have not pulled it yet, but I'll bet parts of my anatomy it is filthy from the soot and needs cleaned.

As soon as I can pull the EGR valve out without losing my fingers to frostbite, I am going to pull it.

Your symptoms sound similar to mine, but mine doesn't cut off. It just runs like crap. No white smoke here either...just plenty of black smoke.

Update 1-18-09 I Got my truck back home today. After sitting in a parking lot for 3 days it started right up and I drove it home without a hitch.......I didn't even hook up the code reader. Makes me believe that maybe the EGR stuck. I should be able to read codes now that I have it in the shop and I'll let you know what I find.

Hey Lawman, I had an injector go bad this summer. Couldn't hardly see the tailgate if I romped on it. Black smoke only and a lot of it. I wouldn't wish it on ya, but maybe a possability
