About to get a 6.0

Hey guys how's it going. I just found this Forum and am quite impressed with the knowledge and know how just scrolling though posts.

So my Dad is going to get a 2004 F350 6.0 tomorrow. And since I am the one who does all the work on his current F150 and my Moms Accord, I am more than concerned about this motor.... To say the least I have heard this motor is... horrific. So I want to find out if there is a way to prevent the Egr cooler from going, how to tell if the side loaded injectors are about to fail. The average life on a head gasket. The pinion shaft that walks out on the 5R110 tranny. Valve stem problems. Etc.

But really how worried should I be? I love my car and it doesn't give me problems.

I just might convince him to ditch it and get a 7.3 manual.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You'll see a lot of people saying the motors aren't horrible they just have a bad rep, it's more the person driving it. To fix the egr just delete it and you're good to go but overall a good motor in my opinion

Now my input might not be worth much, but i bought my 04 with 20000 miles on it and i have 37000 now and havent had a single problem yet. I love the truck i've been in many 7.3s and a 6.0 is more me i like the noise it makes i like how it runs, the tranny is awesome its a great truck. i came from an 01 5.4 and i wouldnt think of selling my 6.0. But like zippy said your gonna get a whole lot of different views. i havent done much performance wise yet, just straight piped.
