Loss of power....and mind
I have a 2004 f-350 with the 6 liter and just got it out of the shop after a month and several thousand dollars. The problem I had was when you hit the accelerator it cuts in and out and when you let off you hear a slight grinding noise, almost like a wheel rubbing, but it isn't. At highway speed it runs fine for a while, but the starts sputtering and every once in a while you hear that grinding noise. I am at a loss. The mechanic told me that it had to do with the egr cooler, but the engine temp is fine and I am not losing coolant. Any one know?

Sounds like a turbo issue, feel like pulling your turbo apart and inspecting it?

Thats exactly what i thought, iether a unison ring seized or the vanes weren't opening, but they kept insisting that it was the egr cooler. I tore the truck apart and it didn't even have a cooler, it had a bypass kit. Now they are telling me that it is messing up because of the bypass kit even though it has ran for months with it on. I would really like to take apart the turbo and look at it, but they have my truck at the dealership, where it has been for a month and a half, and they won't let me take it out because they are always checking something or taking something apart.

I just got my 04 out of shop. Same symptoms. They replaced Turbo and EGR. Said turbo was cracked.
