hello!
I just completed installing the Blue spring upgrade and installed a fuel pressure gauge(strictly diesel hose/isspro ev2 0-100 gauge). also installed a S&B intake after running the afe magnum for the past year. S&B has more filtering and looks better IMO.
Sooo after getting her put back together after about 2 weeks of sitting(lost my first blue spring into the abyss) the truck had a noticeable better throttle response. but it wouldnt reach boost higher then 6-7 psi for my first 2 mile test drive. then 30 minutes later i would get up to about 13 psi but no more.
drove for about 20 miles and still having the same issue. i can still drive on the highway fine but its def not like before where i could easliy hit 22-25 ish easy on stock or level 1 on the tuner. at first i though maybe a boost leak but wouldnt that make it smoke? and it isnt blowing any smoke at all.
so im wondering if the turbo is going through a relearning process? i know the maf was moved about 6-7 inches closer to the turbo with the new intake so could that be the issue?
any ideas on what it could be?
i have a scan gauge II from BPD with the pre programmed pids and is there a way i could use that to trouble shoot?
Your running low fuel psi for the blue spring... maybe it didn't seat right or your fuel line may not be tight. or your pump is getting tired. Either way I'm pretty sure you should be in the 60s I'd check your clamps and boots from the turbo all the way to your intake elbow.sometimes moving stuff around can cause a brittle boot to crack.
Running it with low fuel pressure will result in you buying new injectors...
In the pic below, did you install the black plastic piece (lower right in pic) with the brass plunger?
Even though im sure it seated i will pull it apart and verify when i get back from sea(us navy) in a couple weeks.
Whats strange is that when i first installed it the gauge was reading 55-60...then just started bounceing and wont go more then 45.
Could low fuel pressure be the reason for low boost as well? The only turbo piping i removed was the piping before the egr valve an that was put on very tight. Plus it doesnt smoke like a boost leak would
I just re read through your post and saw that you are complaining of low boost... but how does the power feel?
Maybe your boost gauge/sensor just went bad. If you still have awesome power and nothing else seems wrong then maybe it is just reading the boost wrong.
IMO 40psi of fuel pressure will not hurt your boost that bad. My fuel pressure will dip down into the low 30s on a really heavy race tune and I have no problem hitting 40+ psi on the turbo.
what are the following sensor reading at idle, cruise, and WOT
Theres definetly a loss of power especially from the 2k range and up.
Also the exhaust note is different.
Usually highway cruising i boost around 10-14 flat ground but now its around 4-6psi
I hooked up
My scan gauge to a buddies to compare vgts and his at idle were about 80ish
Where mines stayed around 40-50 range.
I honestly am
Not to sure how to read the vgt reading nor how to compare the others in relation. Still learning that aspect of the truck
I'm wondering if the plunger got stuck half open thus not letting enough pressure build. Fuel pressure is related to boost... There is no relearning mode no matter how close the maf meter is it only measures the amount that passes by. I'd recheck the brass plunger seat... then see how much pressure you get with just the key on... then turn it on and see how much then. If fuel pressure is fine and you still have low boost check your egr valve for being stuck open and the plug ins on the egr and the vgt. You might also have stuck vanes in the turbo itself if it sits often... If your fuel presure is still low and the brass fitting is good your pump may be getting weak. I have a spare I can sell you cheap as well as a entire fuel filter housing assembly with blue spring in that I always had 63psi... but check it all over too... Also the pipe you took off was it plastic or metal?
Yes same as idle at first when key was cycled on it would do about 55psi then the pump would stop and it would drop pressure. The more i think of it i think it is the pressure as well. That maybe the turbo(vgt) was working with the fuel pressure it was receiving.
Well i leave today for a couple weeks for some exercises when i get back ill tear back into her an see what going on. Also i have the metal tubing for the turbo
it does cycle but the range isnt that much hisghest i seen it was 75ish and no lower than 40..thats from just crusing around and WOT
